Highlighting the cultural context and the foundations of developments in painting, sculpture, architecture, and engraving, this series of courses addresses themes such as the 15th-century revival in Flanders; the dissemination of Italian innovations in European courts and northern urban centres the German, Flemish, and Dutch High Renaissance; and the reciprocity of innovations from the North into the Italian artistic centres. After an introduction to the arts of the Italian Renaissance, we will turn to the major artistic developments and their interactions in Europe between 1400 and 1600.
