What can we learn about Canada by engaging with the arts? In this six-week discussion-based art history course, we will visit our country from coast to coast to coast by exploring its fine arts, performing arts, and literature. We will endeavour to learn more about Canada’s people and the places we share, and will ask questions such as the following: What kinds of narratives contribute to our understanding of Canada? What do art and literature show us about the early relationship between Europeans and First Nations? How have newcomers shaped the Canadian art world over the years? How does music help to tell Canada’s story? What does our art tell us about ourselves and our past as a society?
